CASE STUDY
Gigamon Does UNFCCC-NET
December 2007
Former US Vice President Al Gore came to Bali in
December 2007 on his way back from accepting his Noble Price Award, made an impressive speech and left UNFCCC COP13 Climate Change Conference in Bali, unaware of the supporting UNFCCC-NET Network
Infrastructure that made it all possible for the world to view his direct streaming broadcast arriving at any
designated city in the world almost instantly. PAT managed team was responsible for designing, implementing, integrating with UNFCCC IT business processes, operating and managing the performance of the UNFCCC-NET Infrastructure.
This UNFCCC-NET is the largest temporary portable mobile network infrastructure ever built in Nusa Dua area. It supported continuously for two weeks the computing needs for more than 10,000 participants/ delegates coming from over 180 countries around the world.
With limited taps and Cisco Core Catalyst 65xx owned span-port limitation, it was a power control struggle at the temporary NOC, between various aspects of
network deliverables, including security, performance, accountability, SLA reporting etc. This was when
Gigamon as "sniffing" aggregator came handy.
In the end every supporting group was able to deliver the job as intended. And the team members could safely yell: " Been there. Done that & Live to tell...”
